Press Release: Qaelum moves to larger facilities in Science Park Arenberg
November 04, 2016
Larger headquarters support growth for expert in total quality monitoring in medical imaging, including breast cancer screening
Qaelum NV, a young KU Leuven spinoff that closely collaborates with the University Hospitals in Leuven, is growing exponentially.
Last week, Qaelum’s expanding team moved from the KU Leuven Innovation & Incubation Center to a larger, trendier facility in Science Park Arenberg, Leuven. Rubbing shoulders with Bio-Incubator, DSP Valley and IMEC, Qaelum is a new member of this international high-tech community.
Well-equipped in its new facilities, Qaelum is ready to enter the next phase in its growth path after realizing key milestones over the last three months:
- 2 Mio Euro capital raise completed last August
- Renowned expert Prof dr. Rademakers, Director ‘Medical Technology and Innovation’ atthe University Hospitals Leuven, has joined the board of directors
- Former BARCO executive Luc Colle has been assigned VP Global Sales
- Significant extension of the Qaelum team
Total Quality Monitoring in medical imaging: cancer screening and diagnostic examinations
Qaelum started only four years ago, and is now entering an exponential growth phase. This success can be partially explained by the fact that its solutions are very relevant in the medical field: as an expert in total quality monitoring in medical imaging, sensitive aspects in healthcare are addressed such as patient safety and quality in radiology departments (and hospitals in general). The last couple of years, the public awareness of risks of medical imaging examinations and patient empowerment has grown remarkably. In addition, regulations focus more on “Basic Safety Standards” and mandatory radiation tracking. Qaelum’s integrated software solutions assist hospitals in optimizing their total quality monitoring. This ensures compliance with the regulation, but also patient safety in medical imaging examinations.
Clearly outgrown the incubation phase as a start-up
In the last couple of months, things have moved very fast for Qaelum: a capital raise was announced last August, Prof. dr. Rademakers was welcomed in the board of directors, and former BARCO VP Global Sales Luc Colle was recruited to build and lead an international sales team. In addition, several experts have joined the Qaelum team to counter the growing demand, but also to ensure continuous innovation across its solutions portfolio. Last week, Qaelum moved to its new facilities in Science Park Arenberg in Heverlee, Leuven.
Jurgen Jacobs, Qaelum CEO: “Counting almost 30 employees, Qaelum can no longer be seen as an incubating start-up. We’ve clearly outgrown the Innovation & Incubation Center, and there was an urgent need for larger facilities. I am excited that Qaelum's new offices are located in the easily accessible Science Park Arenberg, while remaining in close proximity of the University Hospitals Leuven and other international high-tech companies. One can say we are really ‘independent’ now and we are ready to grow even further.”
