Qaelum supports breast cancer awareness…because we care about you!
November 10, 2016
October was “Breast cancer awareness month”, a worldwide annual campaign involving thousands of organisations, to underscore the importance of breast cancer awareness, research and education. At Qaelum, we feel a warm liking for breast cancer screening and awareness : of course all year round with our solutions, and in particular last October with our presence at the School of Modern Mammography in Ukraine and our “pink” team contribution to “Pink Monday”.
Improved breast cancer screening programmes prevent many deceases
With yearly around 1,5 million breast cancer diagnoses all over the world, 1 in 9 women will be confronted in their lifetime with this disease. The last 30 years, the incidence of breast cancer keeps raising, but fortunately the mortality rate is decreasing – thanks to better screening and treatment methods.
At Qaelum, we are very happy we can also contribute to improve breast cancer screening! With our total quality management software, Qaelum’s mission is to optimize quality and safety in radiology departments, including cancer screening. Our solution MAMMO specifically controls the quality of mammographic devices in breast cancer screening programmes. Also DOSE aims at providing optimal patient safety in medical imaging, such as cancer screening.
Ukraine: Breast Cancer Mammography in accordance with European Guidelines
In October, we assisted in organizing and conducting the educational program of the 5th School of Modern Mammography in Lviv, Ukraine. At this event, organized by the national “Woman Health & Family Planning Foundation”,our sr product specialist Wim Van Riet presented issues and new developments in quality control for an audience of almost 50 radiologists from all over Ukraine.
Pink Monday to support patients returning in their jobs.
The Belgian Pink Ribbon foundation selected a very relevant topic for their breast cancer awareness Pink Monday campaign last October. With ‘Feel like a fish in the water again’, they aimed at supporting breast cancer patients who are facing difficulties when picking up their jobs after treatment. The campaign included an ethical charter for employers, and also encouraged solidarity actions.
Jurgen, our CEO, wants to emphasize the importance of a good support network and guidance when a recovering employee is coming back to work: “It is important that victims of breast cancer know that they can count on the necessary support during the diagnose, treatment and recovery. This support network should not only consist of their family and friends, but also of their colleagues and employer. Understanding and open communication are key here. The employee should be able to openly discuss their situation and limits with an employer without fear of repercussions.”
Companies showed their solidarity for these patients by wearing pink ribbons and a pink outfit every Monday in October. Original team pictures were posted on a facebook-page. Of course, the Qaelum team could not resist this opportunity to show solidarity in an original way, and our team posed for an enthusiastic pink picture… because we care about you!
